If you are anything like me, then you have probably tried a few diary tools. Everything from electronic to hardcover fancy looking diaries that you hide somewhere in the house.
I decided to make my life easier when it comes to a diary. I decided to get a clever electronic diary.
So I put together this stringent criteria for my new diary tool:
- It needs to be secure.
- I need to be able to access my diary from anywhere. Even if I am travelling.
- The Diary needs to be searchable.
- I need to be able to create categories of topics within the diary.
- I want to be able to link entries together.
- I need to be able to tag my entries so I can link entries in different categories.
Quite a list hey!
As you can imagine, I didn’t find a tool that met all my criteria above.
However, what I now have, is a tool that comes pretty damn close to meeting all the criteria above, designed by Efficient Software:
Efficient Diary is diary software which makes sense to me. I can install this little tool on my USB stick. I can install it directly into My Dropbox folder which means I can access it from any of my laptops to make entries. I can even password protect the diary. Very cool
Other features I dig about this tool:
- I can view entries by date, tree structure or categories.
- I can add pictures, website links and documents.
- I can add smiley faces like the one above.
- I can add weather icons to show what the weather was like when I wrote the entry.
- The diary has a search function built into it.
- I can create tables in the diary itself.
------------------------------------------------------------------
My summation of Efficient Diary.
The Good:
The diary is easy to learn. But what I like the most is that it is portable so I can carry it with me when I travel. Being able to password protect it is also very useful.
I am using the free edition of the software which you can download from here: Efficient Diary
The Bad:
I would have liked more tagging functionality on topics or ideas. I would have also liked the ability to link internal pages together.
All in all, I am digging it!
